Lotro Loot Item Guide

Loot and items in Lotro are all color coded. The title of the loot is color coded and the background is color coded. The background color and title color of a loot item will tell you about the loot you are looking at.

Loot Title Color

The title color of any item will tell you how rare an item is. The title of the least rare item is the color white. The title of the most rare item is brown. So it goes from least to greatest rarity: white > yellow > purple > blue > brown.

YellowUncommon4

Loot Background Color

The background color will also tell you something about the item. White titled (or common) loot can come in a variety of colored backgrounds.

Dark Greenquest item
Light Greencrafting item
Pink?junk loot to sell
Greynormal use item - regular armor, tools, and usable items
Red Borderyou can't use item

Fellowship Looting Rules

When you join a fellowship the loot is divided up among the members depending upon the Loot Rule that is chosen. All coin is divided up evenly. White titled (or common) items are not rolled for. All yellow titled (or uncommon) items and above are rolled for. The fellowship leader sets the Loot Rule by right-clicking his portrait, selecting Loot Rule, and then a looting option:
  • Free for All - whoever loots first gets to keep.
  • Round Robin (default) - take turns looting. If something is left on the body, no one else can pick it up. If a yellow (uncommon) item or rarer drops then it is rolled for.
  • Round Robin (need, greed, pass) - take turns looting. If something is left on the body, no one else can pick it up. If a yellow (uncommon) item or rarer drops then it is rolled for. Need has priority over greed.
  • Master Looter - The fellowship leader gets first dibbs on an item. He can choose to keep or pass.

Equipment Durability

The items and loot that you can use repeatedly have durability. After repeated use the item will gradually loose durability until it is unusable. Unusable and low durability items can be repaired at most vendors. An item's sturdiness tells us how easily it will loose durability:
  • Brittle (very weak)
  • Normal
  • Tough (strongest)
